Welcome to our verse-by-verse study through the Gospel of John, guided by the theme: **“That you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.”** John 20:31 In this verse, John describes the purpose of his Gospel — and this shall also be our purpose: to awaken and deepen faith. A faith that not only transforms the mind, but fills the heart and shapes one’s life.

Invitation

The Gospel of John invites us to encounter Jesus personally. In seven special “I am” statements, Jesus reveals who the triune God is—full of love, truth, and life.

  • I am the light of the world (John 8:12)
  • I am the bread of life (John 6:35)
  • I am the door (John 10:9)
  • I am the good shepherd (John 10:11)
  • I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:25)
  • I am the way and the truth and the life (John 14:6)
  • I am the true vine (John 15:1)

In each of these statements, Jesus doesn’t just speak about Himself—He personally invites you to experience Him in these ways:

As light on your path, as nourishment for your soul, as the safe door to God, as the shepherd of your thoughts and decisions, as the source of new life, as a guide in truth, and as the connection to God that brings healing, sustains, and strengthens your life.

It is a gift: Jesus wants you to trust Him, to know Him, and to grow in relationship with Him.

Reflection

The worksheet attached is an opportunity for you each week to draw closer to Jesus. At the heart of it are:

  • Discovering Jesus and the character of God
  • Growing in faith and in the fruit of the Spirit
  • Living as salt and light in the world

You can use the worksheet to:

  • Reflect personally on the sermon and the passage you’ve read
  • Create a kind of journal you can return to later
  • Spark meaningful conversations with others in your small group

However you choose to use it, what matters most is that you stay honest—before God, before yourself, and maybe even before others in your small group.
