We are an international church with people from different countries and different backgrounds. Young and old, college students and working people, families and children, teenagers and seniors. Together we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and together we want to encourage and help one another to grow in our relationship to God through Jesus Christ. We experience how knowing Jesus brings purpose, meaning, and fulfillment in our lives and our fellowship. We take the Bible seriously – as God’s word for all people – also for us in Freiburg today. Church is very important to us – lived Christian fellowship in Freiburg.
The English word Calvary derives from Calvarius – the Latin name for Golgotha – the place where Jesus was crucified. We have this English name because we are part of a global network – the first Calvary Chapel was founded in California. And because we see the events that happened on Calvarius so many years ago as the center of history: the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Son of God, are the foundation of our faith and the source of our hope.
As a Christian church, we confess the classical, historical Christian faith in Jesus Christ, as it was proclaimed by His apostles. This faith is expressed through the Bible and is summarized clearly in the statements of Faith of the earlier Christian church – in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.
Within the Christian church, we belong to the tradition of evangelical free churches. As an evangelical free church, we confess the common basis of faith of the ‘Evangelischen Allianz’ in Germany and thus work together in the ‘Evangelischen Allianz’ with many other churches in Freiburg.
